About

I have been doing pottery since 1992. Since that time I have created work in a variety of clays and firing conditions including cone 6 oxidation, Raku, pit firing, and cone 10 reduction. Through the years I have worked with and learned from a variety of artists. Bill Capshaw at Oak Ridge Art Center in Oak Ridge introduced me to Raku with his wonderful larger than life African masks. Terry Shepherd at The Art Center in Grand Junction gave me the opportunity to learn more about Raku as well as low fire saggar and fuming technique, and cone 10 reduction firing. Tim Wedel, also in Grand Junction, spent a fair amount of time talking with me and letting me help in his studio, sharing his knowledge of glazing and life as professional potter. I now do primarily cone 6 oxidation in my studio in Fort Collins, CO. For my "day job" I'm an art and science teacher for middle and high school students. My current work is mostly functional and fired at cone 6 oxidation, although I would love the opportunity to create wood fired pottery at some point in the future. I have attended several workshops, including one by porcelain artist Tom Coleman. In the summer of 2014 I attended a workshop at Anderson Ranch where I learned how to incorporate 3D printing into ceramics and other aspects of art. When not working at my day job or in my studio I try to carve out some time for gardening and enjoying the Colorado life.
